machines!!

Today I woke up extra early and rushed to the garage to clean up and make some spaces for something very special that will be arriving. I left the garage as it was after my last collection was completed so it would be an understatement to describe the state of my garage as dirty. It was as if a bomb went of and exploded fabric pieces. I piled fabrics that I can reuse and put them neatly in containers and threw out the pieces that I know I won't use (which took a lot of determination as I can be a hoarder when it comes to fabrics). I moved the furnitures and cleaned the entire floor. My industrial sewing machine and overlocker arrived at 1 pm. I have been dreading the fact that I am not getting any practices with the industrial machines (as they are the ones designers use) but could not afford to buy one. A lady in the church I attend knew that I was studying fashion and on one occasion she asked me about the study. It turned out that she is also very interested in fashion and she has been operating a clothing alteration business for quite sometime. She was very surprised to find out that I have used domestic sewing machine to create my garments and asked me if it was difficult to do so (industrial machines are usually more powerful, faster and they have capabilities to give professional finishes to the garments) and I told her I wouldn't know the difference because I have never used an industrial machine. few weeks later after a sermon, she came to me and she told me very cautiously that she would like to give me one of her industrial machine and overlocker. I have difficulties with Korean social protocols and it took me quite a while to decipher what she was trying to tell me (giving a expansive object is very tricky to express in Korean culture as it can make the person who is receiving it very little, the person who is giving something expansive must express his or her intention in a way that does not sound like he/she wants to give it to the other person so that the other person is not offended and belittled). On the other hand, however, I was less than discrete in my expression of gratitude and enthusiasm. Exactly one week after our conversation, the machines arrived and they settled in my garage ready to be used to create beautiful garments. The machines are from Korea so I have to get an adaptor, which is quite expansive in order to plug them in so I was not anble to try them out yet but thinking about the things these machine will allow me to create makes me feel so excited and inspired!
I cannot express how grateful I am for these machines, thank you so much again!

with these industrial machines on one side and my domestic machine on the other, I practically have a sweat shop in the garage

Industrial overlocker, you literally have to go through a labyrinth in order to thread it. I am sure I will get used to it after practice :)

Industrial sewing machine. :D
