Dior 2010 Fall Prêt-à-Porter

Dior is back!!
John Galliano is back!!

After disappointing season after season (since 2007 to be exact, when John Galliano set a new standards for fashion shows through out the year) Dior came back this season with something amazingly beautiful. It seems Mr Galliano finally found a way to distill his extravagant theatrics into something dramatic yet still commercial during his less successful seasons. Also, this season marked John Galliano's much-needed departure from his tired reinterpretations on Monsieur Dior's New Look and Lady Dior handbag (although I personally quite missed Lady Dior this season). People have been pointing out John Galliano's obsession of the New Look for quite sometime. I understand he is trying to keep Dior's legacy alive by revamping it but it seemed almost unhealthy and I felt Mr Galliano was limiting his amazing creativity little too much.

Dior seemed to cement this season's most prominent trends, which was leather and fur, treated in innovative ways and saw the continuation of last season's 'rustic' trend. This Prêt-à-Porter show was also a follow-on from the acclaimed couture show three months earlier with it's equestrian-themed narrative.

This collection was sexy, luxurious and sophisticated. What I liked about it is the fact that there were a lot of items I could look at. It was strange because this was the first Dior Prêt-à-Porter show that i took notice of how the looks were styled with jeweleries, hats, bags and shoes. It's probably because Dior shows usually showed one strong garment as a look, this was the first time I noticed layering. I loved the opening look on Karlie Kloss, brown leather highwayman's cape worn over ruffled chiffon dress (amazing contrast!)with leather thigh-high boots. Other high lights of the show included over sized cream knit cardigan-coat threaded elaborately with blue satin ribbon, checked blanket coat and jackets in mohair and sexy ruffled leather dresses.

And Thank you Dior for FINALLY uploading HQ video of the show on the website

The opening look on Karlie Kloss, just amazing!

One of my favourite looks on Natasha Poly. Amazing leather jacket with lace details, frilled chiffon skirt and leather thigh-high boots. Sexy, sophisticates, PERFECTION!

Sexy frilly leather dress on Sasha

Another one of my favourites on Siri.
Need I explain more?

Wool jacket with frilled leather dress.

My jaw literally dropped when i saw this dress and its detail. So beautiful.

This reminded me a lot of Chanel's evening gown in previous season.

photo shoot

It has been almost 6 months since i was involved in a photo shoot so I really looked forward to this shoot. I cannot speak for the other team members but i had a lot of fun. I contacted Milica the model about 3 months ago when i was organising another series of garments, it was nice to finally meet her. She brought Monique with her, the make up artist. Jaycee is the photographer whom I really wanted to work with.

I decided to call this series 'Pre Collection' because it became experimentations of the collection i will be creating. this was to be my real collection but it lost it's momentum as the time dragged on making these garments and I lost focus. when you are organising your own project, it's great that you can do whatever you like, but because you are not under pressure to do it, you can lose interest in it quite quickly. I still really like the looks, they are something that i wasn't used to, which made the process incredibly fun.
I had a lot of issues with fit but i learnt a learnt a lot, and hopefully, the real collection will be perfect.

The main backdrop of this shoot, yellow sculptural installation at ACCA

Jaycee, Milica and Monique getting ready for the shoot. Jaycee is showing and talking about the shoot he did the other day with Milica's friend while Monique finishing up Milica's hair.

The first look, my heart sank when Milica had trouble getting into the jacket, but with struggle, it fits her. Although she couldn't move very well, I thought she looked fierce!

Second look of the day. One that got ripped by the end of it. Totally my fault.

I find it extremely hard to go in and adjust my garments while the photographer is shooting. Especially when the photographer and model is really getting in to the moment. Sometimes, you just have to walk in and do what you have to do to create better image. Here, Monique is adjusting Milica's hair while Jaycee reviews his images.

I have to say, this looked so much better on Milica. I think this was the highlight of the shoot.
The best compliment she gave when i was dressing her in this look was
'I feel like Lady Gaga!'

Leather+denim dress i had troubles with. I loved it, then I hated it. I had a lot of problems with
the fit with this dress.

Our last look. By this stage everybody was quite tired, hot and thirsty. This was the simplest garment in this series but i liked it the most. I styled with one of my red leather jacket and it looked awesome plus it fitted Milica relatively well.
